Quickstart Guide

This Quickstart Guide assumes its' reader has a basic level of competence with the Liferay portal. As such it will not cover Liferay management topics such as how to create pages or add or remove portlet applications to a page.

Installation

The MyPlaces portlet comes in the form of a Web Application Archive. It may be installed by copying to the <liferay-install-path>/deploy folder or via Control Panel > Plugins Installation > Install More Portlets > Upload File.

Configuration

The MyPlaces portlet comes pre-configured with default settings designed for the most common usage patterns. If these settings are not suitable for your needs, they may be configured via the portlet's preferences pages, which is accessed via the Portlet Options context menu. The Coverage tab of the preferences page allows the portlet administrator to include/exclude some specific communities from the community listing displayed by the portlet. The Style tab encompasses various display aspects of the MyPlaces portlet community listing, including the message to display when no communities are found for the current user, whether to use the default MyPlaces portlet icons and the CSS classes to be used for community listing rows. For further information on these options, please see the manual.

The MyPlaces portlet preferences page is not the only way to alter the behaviour of the portlet - settings may be applied to individual communities which affect the appearance of the community listing generated by all MyPlaces portlet instances in a given virtual host. These settings include the ability to completely exclude a community from appearing in the community listing, customising the icon associated with a given community in the list and the specifying a community hierarchy. Please see the manual for full details.
